Julia Appel is a lyric soprano and accomplished opera singer, renowned for her remarkable talent and diverse repertoire spanning opera, operetta, and chamber music.

Born in Siberia, she graduated with honors from the vocal department of the A. I. Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University, Institute of Music, Theater, and Choreography in St. Petersburg, where she studied under the guidance of Professor L. Shevchenko. Even during her studies, Julia distinguished herself as an outstanding performer, interpreting works such as Franz Schubert’s Messe G-Dur and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem. She further honed her artistry through masterclasses with esteemed teachers including Elena Obraztsova, Eva Blahová, Angelo Gabrielli, and Mario Diaz.

Since 2014, Julia has been a principal performer at the St. Petersburg Operetta Theater, taking on leading roles in productions such as The Princess of the Circus and Sari (I. Kálmán), Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss), Wedding in Malinovka (B. Alexandrov), Truffaldino from Bergamo (A. Kolker), The Bremen Town Musicians (G. Gladkov), and The Snow Queen (G. Portnov).

In 2017, she began collaborating with the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg, performing at major city events and as a soloist with the Orchestra of the S. M. Kirov Academy under the direction of conductor Mikhail Nikolaev.

Since 2018, Julia has been based in Germany, where she actively performs in concerts, theater productions, and international festivals. She has worked with renowned conductors such as Kent Nagano, François-Xavier Roth, Guillermo García Calvo, and Ingo Martin Stadtmüller. Her performances have graced some of the most prestigious stages in Russia and Europe, including BKZ "Oktyabrsky" and the State Academic Capella of St. Petersburg, Elbphilharmonie and the Hamburg State Opera, Laeiszhalle Concert Hall (Hamburg), and Alsion Concert Hall (Sønderborg, Denmark).

Julia also regularly embarks on concert tours across Europe, enchanting audiences with her expressive performances and masterful interpretations.

With a repertoire that includes operatic and operetta arias as well as chamber music by Russian and international composers, Julia Appel captivates audiences with the heartfelt warmth and expressiveness of her lyric soprano.
